Increasingly volatile fuel prices are making electric equipment options a need, rather than a want for many fleets, and Avant Tecno is working to meet that need with the new e727 electric wheel loader – the company’s largest offering in North America.
The benefits of compact electric equipment assets in urban areas are well known, with their low noise, zero tailpipe emission, and lower cost of operations already well known. The question, then, has been about the machines’ higher upfront costs and challenges associated with charging infrastructure – but those challenges are increasingly easier to navigate than roller coaster gas prices.
The timing for Avant Tecno’s US launch of its new e727 electric wheel loader, promising 1,400 kg (~3,000 lbs.) of lifting capacity at a lift height of over 10 feet, couldn’t be better.
“Bringing a fully electric, sustainable loader that’s as powerful and reliable as our diesel models to the US market has been a long time coming,” said Beau Slavens, president of Avant Tecno USA. “The e727’s advanced features, like the Autoshift and its enhanced powertrain, allow operators to enjoy the same power and performance they expect from Avant machines, but with the added benefits of lower noise and environmental impact.”
Automagic transmission
The e727 gets 5.5 hours of continuous runtime from a single liquid-cooled electric motor that draws power from a 27 kWh battery (charging from 10-80% takes place in just over an hour on a 22 kW L2 charger). That motor sends power to the ground through Avant Tecno’s all-new Autoshift, which bills itself as, “a smart, automatic two-speed system that adapts gear selection based on torque and speed needs in real time. Whether you’re loading heavy material or driving across the worksite, Autoshift ensures you get the best torque, efficiency, and comfort without manual switching.”
The loader’s electric motor also powers a pair of auxiliary hydraulic pumps, enabling it to be paired with Avant’s wide range of hydraulic attachments targeting the landscaping, construction, snow removal, and material handling industries.

While there are a lot of people in the equipment and mining space who may scoff at environmental concerns, the quest for improved efficiency and cost reduction among commercial fleet managers knows no ideology. If a things is just as good and cheaper, they’ll buy it. If it’s better and cheaper, they’ll buy two — and battery power is proving to be consistently better, in a broader scope of use cases, than diesel.
