BYD confirmed its new flagship electric sedan will offer a range of 1,008 km on a single charge. Ahead of its official debut next month, the new EV was spotted in public for the first time.
BYD Great Han EV debuts in August, a new flagship EV
The Great Han, or DaHan as it’s called in China, is the first D-segment flagship sedan under BYD’s Dynasty family.
We got a sneak peek of the new full-size sedan last month after it was revealed in the batch of new energy vehicles approved for sale by China’s MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology).
While it was expected to debut in the third quarter, it’s now official. Lu Tian, the general manager of BYD’s Dynasty series, said the Great Han will be revealed at the Chengdu Motor Show next month, teasing that “more surprises await.”
Tian also confirmed the electric sedan will offer a CLTC driving range of up to 1,008 km (626 miles) on a single charge.
While battery specs have yet to be revealed, the Great Han will use BYD’s new Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology.
The setup enables vehicles equipped with the new batteries to recharge from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes using 1,500 kW technology. For a full recharge (10% to 97%), it takes just 9 minutes.
Measuring 5,256 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,510 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, BYD’s flagship sedan is bigger than the Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. It’s closer in size to the long-wheelbase Mercedes S-Class.
The electric sedan will be available with single- and dual-motor configurations. The single rear-mounted electric motor version delivers 370 kW (496 hp), while the AWD dual-motor model has a combined 570 kW (764 hp).
The Great Han will make its official debut at the Chengdu Motor Show, which runs from August 21 to August 30, 2026. Tian said “more surprises await” at the event next month.

Ahead of its world premiere, BYD’s flagship electric sedan was spotted driving in public for the first time. The video from Thinkercar reveals the exterior design in full for the first time.
It will go on sale as the sedan sibling to the flagship Great Tang (DaTang) SUV. After opening orders for the Great Tang at the Beijing Auto Show in April, Tian said that the full-size SUV had received over 100,000 preorders ahead of its official launch.
Since presale prices for the Great Tang start at 250,000 yuan ($37,000), the sedan is likely to start at about the same, or even a bit less.
