Eugenie Bouchard recently revealed the ‘very embarrassing’ faux pas she made at Asia Muhammad’s wedding. The former tennis star admitted that she felt ‘ashamed’ about the unfortunate coincidence, but emphasised that Muhammad wasn’t bothered.
Bouchard and Muhammad competed alongside each other on the WTA Tour for several years, and the two women share a close bond. While the duo never faced each other on the opposite sides of the net in the singles event over the course of their careers, they did compete in a doubles battle against each other in 2022.

Most recently, Eugenie Bouchard attended Asia Muhammad’s wedding, and accidentally ended up matching Muhammad’s bridesmaids. Narrating the incident on her Instagram story, the Canadian wrote,
“Ok, this is the 2nd wedding in a row that I wear the same color dress as the bridesmaids (by accident!!). I have felt so ashamed but I console myself w the thought that if the bride cared she would have included the wedding colors in the invitation?! V embarrassing but butter yellow is the color of the summer i was so excited to wear it lol. Obvs Asia is a chill bride and didn’t care at all – we said i was a back up bridesmaid – but has anyone done this before and what is the solution.”
Asia Muhammad married her longtime partner James Cross in an intimate ceremony on Saturday, July 18. The wedding took place in Vancouver, and was attended by several of her fellow tennis stars, including Jessica Pegula, Jennifer Brady, and Desirae Krawczyk.

After Eugenie Bouchard’s unfortunate coincidence, Asia Muhammad was quick to brush off her friend’s accidental wedding faux pas with a sweet message.
Celebrating Muhammad’s day, Bouchard took to her Instagram story to share a snap of the duo and wrote,
“She’s a WIFE.”
Re-sharing the story, Muhammad joked about the matching dresses, writing,
“ILY!! @geniebouchard (my backup bridesmaid). Kidding, I genuinely did not care at all! She looked a joke in butter yellow 🔥🔥🔥.”
Asia Muhammad made her debut on the WTA Tour in 2006. Eugenie Bouchard joined her three years later in 2009. Over the next decade, Muhammad went on to excel in the women’s doubles event, winning 13 titles. Meanwhile, Bouchard’s career peaked with a finals appearance at the Wimbledon Championships in 2014. While the Canadian has since hung up her racket, Muhammad continues to compete and was last seen in action at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships.
