The Manta Ray is a Mythical pet introduced during Part 2 of the Summer update, which arrived on July 11, 2026. Unlike most event pets that hatch from eggs, the Manta Ray is obtained through the Sheldon NPC, making it one of the rarer companions available during the limited-time summer event.
This guide explains how to unlock the Manta Ray, what its passive ability does, and whether it’s worth adding to your garden.
How to get Manta Ray in Grow a Garden

The Manta Ray is obtained through the Shelldon NPC, a clam-like character located near the event stage. When you interact with Shelldon, you’ll be asked to submit one of your existing pets in exchange for a random event reward. You can sacrifice almost any pet in your inventory, except the Pelican and the Manta Ray.
After submitting a pet, Sheldon will reward you with one of the available event prizes, which include Coastal Eggs, the Pelican, or the Manta Ray. Keep in mind that the Manta Ray has only a 1% chance of being awarded, making it by far the rarest reward in Sheldon’s reward pool. Because of its extremely low drop rate, you may need to exchange multiple pets before you’re lucky enough to unlock it.
Manta Ray passive ability
The Manta Ray comes with a unique passive called Ray of Renewal. With this ability, the pet occasionally swims across your garden, affecting everything in its path. As it glides over crops, those plants receive either the Wet or Tidal mutation. At the same time, any pets it passes gain additional XP, while nearby plants also receive a small growth boost, helping them mature faster.
Because it benefits both crops and pets simultaneously, the Manta Ray is one of the few support-focused event pets that improves multiple aspects of your garden at once.
