ChargePoint and travel plaza chain Onvo plan to install ultra-fast EV chargers at 12 highway locations across Pennsylvania and New York, making EV road tripping a little more convenient.
The first phase of the rollout will bring ChargePoint Express Plus DC fast chargers to Onvo travel plazas located along major highways. The companies say the sites are intended to fill gaps in highway fast charging, making it easier for EV drivers to top up during longer trips.
ChargePoint’s Express Plus is the company’s modular DC fast-charging platform for high-traffic locations, such as highway travel centers. It can deliver up to 500 kW of charging power, depending on the site configuration, and is designed to charge multiple EVs at the same time from a shared power system. The platform supports both CCS1 and NACS connectors.
Onvo, headquartered in Scranton, Pennsylvania, operates a network of 42 travel plazas and convenience stores across central and northeastern Pennsylvania and upstate New York. Onvo travel plazas in Pennsylvania appear to be clustered mostly along highways 80, 81, and 78, and on 90 in New York State. Onvos provide food, shopping, and other amenities.
Onvo says adding EV charging is part of preparing its travel plazas for the growing number of electric vehicles on US roads.

ChargePoint and Onvo haven’t announced when construction will begin or when the first locations will open.
