Rivian Discontinues Its Cheapest R1T And R1S As R2 Rolls Out

    • Rivian has stopped selling the cheapest variants of the R1S SUV and R1T pickup.
    • The Dual Standard models, which had smaller batteries and less range, are no more.
    • The change comes as R2 customer deliveries ramp up.

Rivian’s cheapest R1S and R1T are no more. The Dual Standard variants are no longer available in Rivian’s configurator, some of the brand’s closest followers noticed on Tuesday.

The electric carmaker flagged in March that the models would be discontinued. “We’re refining our R1 vehicle lineup later this year and with that will be sunsetting the R1 Dual Standard,” a company spokesperson told InsideEVs at the time.

R1 Dual Standard models have a pair of motors and Rivian’s smallest battery option. The R1S Dual Standard cost $76,990 before fees and options. The new cheapest R1S, the R1S Dual, costs $83,990. The Dual Standard R1T cost $72,990. Now the lowest-priced R1T is $79,990.

Both discontinued models had an EPA-estimated range of 270 miles. Upgrading to the Large pack in the Dual models bumps EPA range to a much healthier 329 miles. Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe told InsideEVs previously that very few of its customers wound up purchasing the entry trims.

The Dual Standard R1T was, for a long time, Rivian’s lowest-priced option. Now it’s being phased out as a more accessible model comes into play, the R2. Rivian kicked off customer deliveries of its first mass-market crossover this month. The R2 Performance with Launch Package, the first one available, costs $57,990. Next year sometime, Rivian plans to roll out a $45,000 version.
