Novak Djokovic opens up about his first introduction to wife Jelena

In an appearance on the Piers Morgan Uncensored podcast in November, 2025, Novak Djokovic spoke about his first introduction to his future wife Jelena. The 24-time Grand Slam champion revealed that he initially knew her as the girlfriend of a fellow tennis player, saying,
“She used to play tennis but we never met through tennis while she was playing it, but she dated one tennis player that is a friend of mine from the early days.”
He went on to recall the incident when he first got to know about his future wife, explaining,
“It was funny, because the first time I heard about her was when that friend, who was in the same tennis club as me, played a match in the regional tennis league and we won an important match. He took out his jersey and underneath the jersey he had a white shirt written, ‘Jelena, I love you. This is for you.’ And we were like, ‘Oh my god that’s so lame, why would you do that?’ And then, ‘Who is this Jelena?’ And it was her.”
On the tennis end of things, Novak Djokovic was last seen in action at the French Open. Competing in the year’s second Grand Slam, the 39-year-old made it to the fourth round before suffering an upset against Joao Fonseca. The Serbian is now expected to return to action at Wimbledon.
