MJF has been the top heel of All Elite Wrestling. He has been reigning as the AEW World Champion, with total domination in the division. Recently, a WWE veteran talked about how he could have played a crucial role in a major name’s comeback in All Elite Wrestling.
Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently talked about MJF and Will Ospreay. He gave his thoughts on how Tony Khan and his crew could have framed a much more compelling storyline for The Ariel Assassin’s comeback to the Jacksonville-based promotion. Originally, Ospreay made his return to the company at Revolution pay-per-view by confronting Jon Moxley.
However, speaking on Official Jim Cornette, the WWE veteran said he would have put Will Ospreay’s return with MJF. He suggested a storyline where The Salt of the Earth could have disrespected The Ariel Assassin’s mother on one of the Dynamite. That disrespect could have forced Will to come out of his rehab early to take on Maxwell Jacob Friedman. As per Jim, such an angle would have generated much more buzz around the former NJPW star’s return.
“They could have had him come back against medical orders by having MJF p*ss on his mother’s face or something on a goddamn TV show, giving him an award for his goddamn contributions to the sport before he had to retire. I’ll come back and kill you for p*ssing on Mum’s face. I don’t f**ing know. And you goddamn have Ospreay come back and have to prove himself. Is the Is the neck going to hold up?” Cornette said.

Will Ospreay is walking into the finals of the Owen Hart Cup 2026 at Forbidden Door later this month. Meanwhile, MJF has been regularly defending his AEW World Championship on Dynamite. The two stars are yet to come face-to-face in AEW in 2026.
MJF provides an update on his recent knee injury
MJF recently hurt his knee during his match with Rush on last week’s Dynamite. There have been rumors since then that Maxwell Jacob Friedman could have to vacate his AEW World Championship if the injury is serious. Ahead of this week’s Dynamite, The Salt of the Earth gave an update on his condition.
Taking to Instagram, Max shared a video where he is taking an ice plunge. He highlighted how he injured his knee last week. However, Friedman revealed that the inflammation has significantly gone down since last week. While there is still much pain, he believes he is feeling better than before now.
“I hyper-extended it in a match against Rush, who is a bad person. I think we can all agree on that. This match happened on Wednesday, it is now, I believe, Tuesday, and my inflammation in my knee has drastically gone down. Obviously, there’s still a s*** ton of inflammation and pain, but being honest with myself, without this cold plunge, I do believe it would have took me a lot longer to start feeling like myself,” said Max. With that said, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for MJF from here on. AEW is set to head to its hottest period of All In 2026. Therefore, an injury at this point could be a crucial moment for the world champion.
