Polymarket is receiving backlash for its coverage of Jonathon Cooper. Polymarket Football posted an update regarding Cooper’s arrest on domestic violence and criminal mischief charges on Sunday.

Rather than using standard court documents or official team headshots, the account used a highly controversial AI-generated image depicting Cooper with an iPhone crammed into his mouth, as if it were a piece of food.

Broncos reporter Luca Evans blasted the multi-billion-dollar platform on X on Sunday.

“So incredibly irresponsible,” Evans tweeted. “Affidavit reads he bit the phone and caused damage. Does not say he tried to “eat” the phone. This is a massive company with a massive influence using an AI image to make a joke out of a potentially serious case. What are we doing man.”

According to an arrest affidavit from the Parker Police Department, Cooper and his girlfriend were arrested following a chaotic argument stemming from allegations of infidelity.

The police report revealed that the conflict escalated over access to cellular devices. Cooper’s girlfriend allegedly threw his phone across the room, and Cooper admitted to law enforcement that he threatened to break her phone and subsequently bit her phone in an attempt to crack the screen and disable it.

Cooper, a former 2021 seventh-round pick out of Ohio State, has developed into the face of the Broncos’ pass rush. With a court hearing scheduled for Monday in Douglas County Court, Cooper faces a looming investigation and potential suspension under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Why did Jonathon Cooper get arrested?

According to reports, Parker Police officers responded to a domestic dispute at Jonathon Cooper‘s apartment at approximately 11:15 PM on Thursday night. The physical altercation reportedly began over a cell phone following cheating allegations.

Cooper’s girlfriend accused him of infidelity and grabbed his phone, eventually throwing it against a wall. Cooper also admitted to threatening to destroy her cell phone in retaliation. He bit her phone in an attempt to crack the screen and succeeded in disabling it.

Since the altercations were mutual and involved damaged property, both Cooper and his girlfriend were arrested and transported to the same facility. The Broncos star was booked into the Douglas County Jail at 2:38 AM on Friday on suspicion of two counts of domestic violence and one count of criminal mischief (valued between $300 and $1,000 for the damaged phone).
