Cody Rhodes was “arrogant” and sounded like a heel on WWE SmackDown, according to Mark Henry. Rhodes has been the company’s top babyface since his return in 2022 and has continued to excel in the role.
But after four years as the all-conquering hero, there has been a clamor to see him go over to the bad side. In the last few months, there have been fleeting moments where hints of Rhodes’ heel turn have been dropped, but there seems to be no plan to move in that direction.
Thanks for the submission!
The American Nightmare has himself addressed the speculation, saying he doesn’t see himself turning into a bad guy anytime soon. But Hall of Famer Mark Henry believes otherwise, especially after his promo with Gunther this week on SmackDown.
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Mark Henry dissected Cody Rhodes‘ promo and said it sounded arrogant and heelish.
He (Cody) made reference to GUNTHER being ‘big’ GUNTHER. In my opinion, I think Cody shouldn’t have been worried about GUNTHER being refined and him losing the weight. What’s wrong with wrestling the indies? What’s wrong with wrestling in front of 250 people?
During a heated exchange, The Ring General told the Champion he had been handed everything and that he was privileged in a lot of ways. Rhodes responded by saying that Gunther also wants to be the face of WWE, saying if that wasn’t the case, he would have been facing the 300 lb version of the Austrian who used to wrestle in front of small indie crowds.
Henry said this was arrogant from Rhodes and sounded like a heel, making the ever-present comparison with Homelander from The Boys.
“It made him sound like a heel to me. I’ve been saying this for months, almost a year. The stuff that Cody says is very arrogant and offsetting. Oh he’s Homelander. He is 100% Homelander now,” he added.
Eric Bischoff wants WWE to turn Cody Rhodes heel
Cody Rhodes has been compared to The Boys’ villain Homelander mainly due to his blonde looks and American flag-based suit. Despite the comparisons, WWE has been firm on keeping Rhodes as a babyface.
Speaking on his 83 Weeks podcast, Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff said in order to freshen things up, WWE should turn Rhodes heel.
He mentioned that even though the company is doing great business-wise, they have reached a flatline creatively. Bischoff argued that they need something to kick things into the next gear, and he would like to see a different version of the Cody Rhodes.
