    GM-mid-size-EV-off-roader

It’s a truck and SUV. GM said the Hummer X “redefines what a mid-size EV can do off-road,” previewing the new concept for the first time.

    Meet the GMC Hummer X, a mid-size EV off-roader

A mid-size Hummer EV? Now, that might just sell. The Hummer EV pickup and SUV are massive, but a smaller (likely more affordable) version could pose a threat to the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, which dominate the off-road market.

GM just revealed the Hummer X concept as an SUV and pickup truck. While the company made it clear the concept is “not intended for production,” it will serve as a testbed for GM’s new tech.

The Hummer X “redefines what a mid-size EV can do off-road,” GM said, with a low center of gravity, extreme on-demand acceleration, removable fender flares, and multimatic shocks.

At 188.3″ long, 80″ wide, and 72.9″ tall, with a 116″ wheelbase, the mid-size Hummer EV is about the size of the four-door Ford Bronco, measuring 189.4″ in length, 75.9″ in width, and 73″ in height, with a 116.1″ wheelbase. It also has about the same ground clearance as the Bronco Raptor at 13.1″.

GM said the concept “is envisioned to be a capable rock crawler designed and engineered as a modular platform.”

With flexible manufacturing technology, or what GM calls “Flex Fab,” the Hummer X is designed to be fully customizable through small-batch, on-demand production.

Similar to 3D printing, but for metal, GM said the method requires no special stamping tools or designs, enabling faster output. The interior can also be personalized with stackable displays and new digital tech.

GM’s team at the new advanced design studio in Pasadena, California, designed the concept car as a “builder maker,” or in other words, a vehicle that can be modified and shared amongst the community.

It even includes a suite of apps to help connect drivers with their vehicles, which the team calls “Hummer Hub,” and a scout drone that can land and dock itself to scope out a trail ahead of you.

While GM said it’s not intended for production, we could, or at least hope, to see the Hummer X in some form, with demand for off-roaders heating up. Several automakers, including Hyundai and Nissan, are planning to launch new off-road vehicles in the US. Is GM next in line?

Since the current 2026 GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV start at just under $100,000, a mid-size version would open up a new market of buyers at a lower price.

What do you think of the concept? Would you choose one over the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler? Let us know in the comments below.
