Wang Xinyu, the World No. 34 from China, produced a moment of French Open controversy during her women’s singles second-round outing against Tamara Korpatsch of Germany. Wang, the No. 32 seed, disagreed vehemently with a line call and went on to have a heated argument with the German. The chair umpire subsequently gave the 24-year-old Chinese a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Roland Garros remains the only tennis major where electronic line calling is yet to be introduced, which can lead to contentious line calls that players dispute. A similar situation unfolded during Wang’s second-round match against Korpatsch. The Chinese was so irked by one particular call that she shockingly walked over to Korpatsch’s side of the net and began arguing with the German as well as the line judge who made the call.
Thanks for the submission!
However, it was all for nothing as the chair umpire didn’t overrule the line judge’s decision and instead slapped Wang with a code violation. Watch the moment unfold below:
Ultimately, the unseeded Korpatsch, ranked 95th in the world, caused an upset as she defeated Wang 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Tamara Korpatsch & Wang Xinyu’s heated French Open 2R clash ends with lack of handshake

Tamara Korpatsch and Wang Xinyu‘s war of words stopped after the Chinese WTA star was punished by the chair umpire with a code violation. However, it resumed when the players came together at the net after the conclusion of the contest. Here, instead of a respectful handshake, a salty exchange played out between the Chinese and German players.
On X (formerly Twitter), fans were divided, with some criticizing Wang’s behavior that led to her receiving the code violation and others taking swipes at Korpatsch for the way she behaved with the Chinese following the end of their French Open match.
“Very disrespectful, also she (Wang) was clearly wrong. Hawkeye also confirmed it later,” one fan wrote.
“Can’t do that, sorry. End of discussion,” commented another, referring to Wang crossing over to Korpatsch’s side of the net.
“Korpatsch has one of the most detestable attitudes on the circuit, it’s well known. But the umpires are totally passive,” another fan chimed in.
Having ousted Wang Xinyu from the 2026 French Open, Tamara Korpatsch will go on to face either Elina Svitolina or Kaitlin Quevedo in the third round of women’s singles action. At the time of writing, Svitolina’s second-round match is underway, with the Ukrainian leading in the first set.
