Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad and the rest of the squad have been handed a massive fine after the franchise were found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate for the second time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season. The skipper has been fined ₹24 lakh for the offence, while the rest of the team are set to be fined either ₹6 lakh or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.
Featuring in their final league stage match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Thursday, May 21, CSK failed to begin their 20th over within the cut-off time as the hosts slammed a massive 229-4, after being put into bat first.
CSK faced an on-field penalty for the same, as they had to field an extra fielder inside the circle for the final over bowled by Mukesh Choudhary. The left-arm pacer conceded 13 runs off the final over, before picking up Washington Sundar’s wicket off the last ball of the innings.
