Although the new Bolt is now on sale, GM is still calling the electric Chevy Equinox “America’s most affordable 315+ mile range EV.” For the 2027 model year, GM is addressing at least one of the biggest complaints with the current model.
2027 Chevy Equinox EV model year updates and changes
After launching the more affordable LT trim in late 2024, starting at under $35,000, demand for the electric SUV surged.
The Chevy Equinox EV ranked third among US EVs last year, behind the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, offering the right mix of range (up to 319 miles), features, and style at an affordable price.
In the first quarter, the electric Equinox remained a top seller, ranking fifth behind the Hyundai IONIQ 5, Toyota bZ, Tesla Model 3, and Model Y.
Facing new competition, like the updated Toyota bZ and Hyundai IONIQ 5, GM is addressing one of the biggest complaints about the current Equinox for the upcoming 2027 model — the sound system. According to GMAuthority, the 2027 Chevy Equinox EV will finally be available with a premium Bose sound system.

The current 2026 Chevy Equinox EV comes with a standard six-speaker stereo and no option to upgrade to a premium setup.
GM will offer it on the 2027 Equinox EV as part of the Active Safety Package 3 for an additional cost. For the current model, the Active Safety Package 3 is available exclusively on the LT2 and RS trims for an extra $3,355. It includes 3 years of OnStarOne, GM’s Super Cruise ADAS tech, and Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist.

According to the report, the optional Bose premium sound system is expected to raise the package price by $600, to $3,955.
While it may seem like a minor update, a quick search online shows that the sound system is arguably the biggest complaint among current owners.

Most agreed that even the previous Bolt EUV with the Bose sound system sounded far better than the six-speaker setup in the Equinox.
The 2027 Chevy Equinox EV is also expected to be the first model year to feature a built-in NACS port for recharging at Tesla Superchargers. GM offers an NACS DC Adapter on its website for $275 for current drivers.
| 2026 Chevy Equinox EV trim | Starting Price* | EPA-estimated Range |
| LT 1 FWD | $36,495 | 319 miles |
| LT 1 AWD | $39,795 | 307 miles |
| LT 2 FWD | $43,295 | 319 miles |
| LT 2 AWD | $46,595 | 307 miles |
| RS FWD | $45,595 | 319 miles |
| RS AWD | $48,895 | 307 miles |
GM said last year that all future EVs will feature a native NACS charge port as standard. The 2027 Chevy Blazer EV is also switching to NACS.
The 2026 Chevy Equinox EV LT FWD starts at $34,995 or $36,495 with destination fee, and offers up to 319 miles of range.
While the new 2027 Bolt is slightly cheaper, starting at $28,595, the Equinox offers more range (up to 319 miles vs 262 miles), interior space (102 cubic feet vs 96.6 cubic feet), and a larger infotainment screen (17.7″ vs 11.3″).
