Apartment and condo residents are still one of the biggest missing pieces in the US EV charging buildout, and ChargePoint says it will work with OBE Power to help close that gap.

ChargePoint and OBE Power today announced a new partnership to deploy EV charging at multifamily housing properties, with plans to roll out around 2,500 charging ports beginning in 2026.

The companies say OBE Power, which runs Charging-as-a-Service programs, will use ChargePoint’s chargers, software, and services as its exclusive EV charging technology platform for the multifamily sector.

Apartment residents often have far fewer charging options than homeowners in single-family homes. According to the US Department of Energy, around 80% of EV charging happens at home.

    A turnkey model for landlords

Under the partnership, OBE Power will install and operate the charging infrastructure at multifamily properties using its owned-and-operated model. The company will also handle ongoing management, maintenance, repairs, insurance, driver support, and energy cost reimbursement.

The companies say landlords won’t have to pay for the charging infrastructure or ongoing operations.

ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer said the partnership expands the companies’ existing relationship in hotels and hospitality into apartment communities, which he said have lacked an easy and scalable charging solution. “We’re also delivering a turnkey solution for landlords thanks to ChargePoint’s technology combined with OBE Power’s owned‑and‑operated business model.”

OBE Power cofounder and managing director Alejandro Burgana pointed out that the two companies have worked together for more than a decade deploying EV charging where people “live, work, and stay.”

As EV adoption grows, charging access at apartments and condos is becoming a much bigger focus for charging companies and property owners alike.

For renters, unreliable or nonexistent home charging can still be one of the biggest barriers to buying an EV. And for landlords, EV charging is increasingly becoming an amenity tenants expect, especially in newer developments.

ChargePoint and OBE Power say they’ve already aligned their apartment and condo development pipelines and plan to begin deployments in the near term.
