Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah could make a U-turn on his decision to leave Anfield, if the club decides to part ways with Arne Slot and the directors that back the coach, as per The Athletic.

The Egyptian signed a two-year extension with Liverpool last year, meaning his current deal has another 12 months remaining in it. However, after a fallout with Slot and his explosive interview back in December, the mercurial forward has decided to call time early on his nine-year stint on Merseyside.

Simon Hughes, senior writer at The Athletic, has now claimed that sources close to Salah were suggesting that the Reds icon did not completely give up on staying at Anfield.

The report further states that a change in regime involving Slot and the Liverpool board members who back him could tempt Salah to stay at the club.

Despite these claims, Liverpool have shown no signs of wanting to replace Slot. The Dutch tactician won the Premier League last season and the club’s owners are expected to give him time to turn things around.

And with the regime change unlikely to happen, Salah is now set for an emotional goodbye on the final day of the season at Anfield. The Kop will honour their star forward with a mosaic display during a send-off that could turn emotional.

Wayne Rooney publicly slams ‘selfish’ Mo Salah for Liverpool outburst ahead of farewell at Anfield

Mohamed Salah made headlines after Liverpool’s 4-2 loss against Aston Villa on Saturday. The attacker expressed his disappointment with the way in which his team played during the defeat.

Salah insisted the Reds must go back to playing ‘heavy metal’ football and added that anyone who joins the club should adapt to that style.

Wayne Rooney reacted to the comments made by Salah by calling it a dig at Slot. The Englishman even went on to claim that Salah’s legs have gone to the extent that he can’t even play the heavy attacking football he wants the team to adopt now.

He said on ‘The Wayne Rooney Show’:

“I find it sad at the end of what he’s done and what he’s achieved at Liverpool. It’s not the point for him to come out and aim another dig at Slot.

“He wants to play heavy metal football, so he’s basically saying he wants Jurgen Klopp football. Now I don’t think Mo Salah can cope with that type of football anymore. I think his legs have gone to play at that high tempo and high intensity.”

Rooney also added that Salah is now trying to vindicate himself after a poor season and called him selfish for his comments. The footballer-turned-pundit also urged Slot to drop Salah from the squad for the final game against Brentford on Sunday.

    He added:

“I think Salah’s trying to vindicate himself and make himself feel better because he’s had a very poor season.

“So I think he’s been very selfish in what he’s done in the two occasions. It’s a shame and fans will be on his side, but I think when you look deeper into it and having been in a dressing room in a similar situation to that as well, Mo Salah knows exactly what he’s doing.

“If I was Arne Slot, I’d have him nowhere near the stadium in the last game.”

Salah is one of the greatest ever footballers to play for Liverpool. He has scored 257 goals and registered 122 assists in 441 appearances for the club across competitions.
