Former Edmonton Oilers winger Evander Kane has a strained relationship with his ex-wife Anna. The pair have been involved in numerous legal and public disputes over the years, with Anna accusing Kane of abuse, financial neglect, and betting on his own games, among other allegations.
On Saturday, Kane issued a statement hitting back at his ex-partner. He accused her of stalking and harassment and claimed she had done her best to “sabotage” his career.
“It’s time to clear up what I have endured at her hands… These relentless attacks have caused damage, and I have shown more patience than anyone should be expected to. That patience has now run out,” Kane said.
He added:
“I want to make something absolutely clear: I did not put her in this position. She put herself here… A permanent domestic violence restraining order exists against her for good reason yet she has chosen to ignore it, along with every other court order issued in this matter. The violations number in the thousands. Rather than comply, she has done the complete opposite at every turn, deliberately defying the legal system that has given her every opportunity to do the right thing.”
Kane and Anna tied the knot in 2018, but she filed for divorce in June 2021. Kane was granted sole custody of their daughter in December 2021, with Anna being allowed professionally supervised visits, according to the New York Post.
In his statement, Kane said Anna had “refused to follow through on court-ordered agreements” pertaining to supervised visits.
“Anna claims she is doing everything in her power to get her daughter back, but her actions tell a different story,” he wrote. “In the last three years, she has done nothing to demonstrate that she is serious about being a mother.”
Further, he spoke highly of his fiancée Mara Teigen for the way she has dealt with the situation, calling her an “absolute blessing”. He added that he would now be seeking legal action against Anna to hold her accountable.
“She has made her choices, and now she must face their consequences. I will be pursuing every available legal remedy to ensure justice is served. Accountability is not optional. It is long overdue, and it is coming,” said Kane.

Evander Kane concluded his statement by saying that nothing is more important to him than his family. He called his children his “greatest joy,” adding that no negativity could dim that.
Anna responds to Evander Kane’s accusations
After Evander Kane released his statement, Anna was quick to respond. She asked her ex-partner a pointed question about his hockey career.
“Evander can you put out a statement why you are not in the NHL anymore and no team wants anything to do with you? The people would love to know.”
Evander Kane is currently a Vancouver Canucks player, but he is set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He has been linked with a return to the Edmonton Oilers.
