Fox reporter Amanda Busick had a close call with a runaway pit cart before Friday’s Truck Series race at Dover Motor Speedway. The heroics of Hendrick Motorsports tire changer Donovan Williams saved her from serious injury.
The incident happened after Friday’s qualifier, when Busick was walking down the pit road when a 4,000-pound pit cart got loose and was charging downhill. Williams put himself in danger when he shielded her from the impact.

As a former football player, Williams is no stranger to injuries, but even he remarked that it had all the makings of serious trauma. Williams suffered a deep laceration in his right buttock and severe road rash to his right hand. However, his X-rays came back negative, and he’s on track to make a full recovery soon.
Jeff Gluck reported on the incident with the following remarks from Busick.
“This all happened in probably less than half a second, maybe a second. And Donovan, in his attempt to shield me, we kind of got collected and then would have been pushed, I don’t know, I’d say probably five to 10 feet together with the cart behind him and him on me.
“That guy saved my life,” she added via The Athletic.
Amanda Busick endured a hyperextended knee, sore shoulder, and some cuts and bruises. Despite the whole ordeal, Busick continued to cover Friday’s race at Dover, while HMS flew in Williams’ family to be with him.

Donovan Williams got called a hero after Friday’s incident at Dover. Amanda Busick came in person to thank him right before he got discharged. She revealed that they shared a ‘big hug’.
Moreover, team owner Rick Hendrick and Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon personally spoke to him and praised his efforts.
“Whether it was just a matter of circumstance, I just reacted in the situation, went with it and was hoping for the best,” he said via aforementioned source. “Everyone was saying it kind of ran over me and clipped me as I moved Amanda out the way and fell on her kind of simultaneously. I’m just feeling very, very blessed because that was a situation that could have been a lot worse if it had hit me a couple inches in any other direction.”
On the racing front, Kyle Busch won the race after starting in pole. Driving for Spire Motorsports, the result marks his second Truck win of the season after Atlanta. It also follows a top-10 finish in last weekend’s Cup race at Watkins Glen International.
He has now qualified 11th for Sunday’s All-Star race at Dover. Denny Hamlin has captured pole with Brad Keselowski rounding out the front row.
