Yes, GTA 6 is going to have a physical edition during its launch on November 19, 2026. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed this in a Variety interview, which was held in February 2026, shutting down the rumours that physical copies would be held back.

That said, there is a reason why the rumor about GTA VI not having a physical edition at launch spread so widely across the gaming world. Read on to learn more about it.

GTA 6 to have physical edition in 2026, Take-Two CEO confirms

During a Variety interview on February 3, 2026, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked by the reporter directly about the physical copy delay rumour. His response was short and clear, and he simply said:

    “That’s not the plan.”

Of course, it is worth noting that the statement is not an ironclad guarantee in the traditional sense. Zelnick did not elaborate further, which technically leaves some room for things to change in the months leading up to November.

Given that he is the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company and was specifically addressing this rumour, it is about as close to a definitive answer as can be expected without an official press release.

Where the rumor about GTA 6 not getting a physical edition came from

The physical copy concern originated from a Polish publication called PPE.pl, where an insider known as Graczdari (the same person who is responsible for the physical video game sales industry across Europe) claimed that GTA 6 physical copies would not be available to purchase on launch day.

According to the claim, the delay of physical copies into 2027 was designed to prevent pre-release leaks, a concern that would not be entirely unreasonable given what happened to GTA 6 footage back in 2022.

This is the reason that made the claim feel credible to a lot of people, rather than just another baseless leak.

GTA 6 Pre-order editions and what comes next

GTA 6 pre-orders have not officially opened yet as of writing, though reputed insider DetectiveSeeds has hinted that several types of pre-order editions are being planned, potentially including early access options. The specifics have not been confirmed, but multiple editions at launch would be consistent with how Rockstar has handled major releases in the past.

The marketing for GTA VI is expected to begin in summer 2026, with Zelnick previously confirming that marketing beats are coming. Once that kicks off, pre-orders and edition details should become clearer fairly quickly.
