    AEW Star Expects John Cena to Come Out of Retirement in WWE

    John Cena closed the chapter on his in-ring WWE career months ago. However, an AEW star still believes that he will come out of retirement.

    The aforementioned wrestling legend is Jeff Jarrett. The Never Seen 17 embarked on a farewell tour in 2025, which culminated with his final WWE match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December. Despite his in-ring career being over, Cena is still signed with WWE and working with them in a different capacity.

    He was the host of WrestleMania 42 and also appeared at the WWE Backlash 2026 Premium Live Event to announce a new event called ‘The John Cena Classic.’ In the recent edition of My World with Jeff Jarrett, the WWE Hall of Famer said that Cena never really retired as he is still actively involved with the company. Moreover, Jarrett believed this had given fans hope that Cena might get in a physical altercation and that they could create a lead to make it happen in the future.

    He never was really retired. He’s actively involved. People are waiting for him any minute to get shoved around and come out of retirement. And if you ask me, it’s what a wrestling fan wants. They’re going to be successful on getting, they create leads, Connie, as you know as well as I do. That’s what the model’s about. They’re going to create a boatload of leads.”- H/T ITR Wrestling

    John Cena sums up his WWE Backlash 2026 announcement

    In a CBS interview, John Cena said that he bombarded a lot of information during his WWE Backlash 2026 announcement. He said that The John Cena Classic was simply an All-Star game between WWE and NXT superstars with a lot of exhibition that did not need any long-term storyline building.

    “I guess this to sum it up in a sentence, I know I dropped a lot of information at Backlash. I think to sum it up in a sentence, it could be a version of WWE’s All-Star game. It’s a night of exhibition, so we don’t really have to build any long lead stories into it. It is the current competing with, and that means they might be paired with who knows what, like the bracketology is endless. Could be compared with, they could be up against the future of the company, uh, superstars from NXT,” he said.

    While there is no information on the event date so far, it will surely be one of the anticipated WWE special shows of the year.
