Specialists in oncology, surgery, and radiation therapy from India and abroad participated in GlenOncon 2026 conference on head and neck cancers organised by Gleneagles Hospitals in Chennai on Monday.
The conference focused on recent developments in diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation in head and neck oncology. Sessions covered thyroid and nasopharyngeal cancers, skull base surgeries, microvascular flap reconstruction, robotic-assisted procedures, precision medicine, immunotherapy and newer radiation techniques.
The event was conducted in collaboration with several medical bodies, including the Tamilnadu and Andhra Surgical Oncology Association, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Association of Otorhinolaryngologists, Association of Radiation Oncologists of India, Foundation for Head and Neck Oncology and Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India.
The programme featured panel discussions, scientific presentations, surgical video demonstrations and research paper presentations by postgraduate students and consultants.
Balaji Ramani, director of Oncology, said head and neck cancers constituted a significant share of India’s cancer burden, with many patients seeking treatment only in advanced stages of the disease. He stressed the importance of early diagnosis, awareness and coordinated multidisciplinary care in improving survival and quality of life.
The hospital said the conclave was intended to provide a platform for clinicians, surgeons, and researchers to exchange expertise on evolving trends in head and neck oncology.
