Minecraft spinoffs have had a curse for a long time. No matter what Mojang Studios produces, it seems that the games don’t click with the players. The blocky game has been immensely successful but every spinoff that has spawned failed to impress. However, there were many players who wanted the developers to give some of the spinoffs another chance, and luckily, they did.

Mojang Studios have announced Minecraft Dungeons II coming this year and there are a lot of interesting changes and additions to the previous game. Here are the five things you should know about the upcoming game and what makes it so exciting.

5 things to know before the release of Minecraft Dungeons II

    1) Official release date

While waiting for any anticipated game is difficult, this one will be easier for Minecraft fans as the official launch is on September 29, 2026. Initially teased during Minecraft Live through a secretive teaser codenamed “Spicewood,” the title was fully revealed alongside a gameplay trailer outlining its brand-new storyline and overhauled world design.

In just over a month, you will be able to get your hands on the game and try out all the new features that are coming with it. But things get even better as you might not even have to buy the game separately.

    2) Cross-platform and Day One Game Pass access

Microsoft and Mojang are ensuring broad availability across all modern platforms from day one. The game will release simultaneously on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and both the Nintendo Switch and its successor.

But the best part is that Xbox Game Pass subscribers can dive in on launch day with full cross-play and cross-progression support. So if you have the Game Pass or are planning to get it, it will be more worth the price.

    3) Better combat, Uncharted Lands, and new bosses

The sequel raises the stakes beyond the original Illager narrative by introducing revamped combat mechanics and a lot of new territories. You will explore new biomes, ranging from sulfurous regions to frozen mountain peaks, while battling a bunch of new threats coming upon the Overworld with tougher mobs, better loot, and challenging boss fights.

    4) Co-Op action is the core experience

Minecraft is a game that is more fun when you play it with friends, and the same is true for Minecraft Dungeons II. This is why seamless cooperative play is the main drive of the gameplay loop.

Dungeons II will support up to four players in local couch co-op or online cross-play. The series will have its flexible progression system, allowing you to freely adapt your playstyle based entirely on your choice of weapons, armor, and enchanted items. This means that you get more freedom which is what the blocky game is all about.

What is even more interesting is to see what Mojang Studios have come up with to make the second game different from the previous one. It is very likely that there are some new gameplay mechanics as well that improve the flow of the game.

    5) Exclusive pre-order cosmetic bonuses

Pre-orders are open now and feature a pack of cosmetic perks for early buyers. If you get your copy prior to release day you will unlock two unique hero skins, the Twisted Cape, and an exclusive Twisted Chicken companion pet to join them on your adventures. Do note that these pre-order bonuses will remain available up until the day before release on September 28, 2026.
