Malik Beasley‘s NBA career might be over after the former Timberwolves star was indicted on federal charges for gambling related to a sports betting scheme. Beasley last played for the Detroit Pistons in the 2024-25 season. He averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 82 games, but the Pistons did not re-sign him.

On Monday, an X account shared a video of Beasley going full throttle as a Timberwolves player. In the video, the Wolves were down 9 with only five seconds left in the fourth quarter, but when Beasley got the ball in the final moments, he ran from coast-to-coast to get a basket.

It was an unnecessary play as Beasley’s attempt to cut the lead down to seven points with only a few seconds left on the clock. The X account claimed that the spread for that Timberwolves game was +8.5.

Fans swarmed the post’s comments section with their opinions on the play.

“Honestly, this video alone is at least 5 guaranteed years behind bars 🤣,” one fan commented.

“Bro ran that fast break like a mob boss had his family at gunpoint,” another fan said.

    Here are more reactions:

“bro sprinted like his life depended on it for $ 😩 NBA is such a joke now with all these gambling addicts ruining it,” one fan said.

“Looks like he was chasing that +8.5 cover hard with that desperation drive,” another fan said.

“He deserves whatever punishment he gets!” another fan commented.

Malik Beasley was facing financial troubles despite earning about $60 million

Malik Beasley was one of the better-paid NBA players in the league. The Pistons had offered him a three-year, $42 million deal last offseason. However, they rescinded their offer once they were informed about the investigation against Beasley.

According to Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic, Malik Beasley was going through financial troubles.

“He has a history of debt and financial troubles,” Vorkunov wrote. “Beasley was sued by his former agency in 2025 for more than $2.5 million after they said he breached his contract with them. A judge ruled that the agency won the case by default this spring after Beasley did not respond.”

“He took out a $4.53 million loan in 2021, with 12 percent interest. Less than a year later, South River Capital, the loan provider, sued him for the amount and another $1.3 million in fees.”

According to Spotrac, Beasley had earned $59,948,525 in his nine-season-long NBA career.
