Scientists discover the brain’s hidden “stop scratching” switch
When an itch strikes, scratching usually brings relief after a few moments. Scientists have now uncovered part of the biological system that tells the brain when enough scratching has occurred. The discovery reveals how the nervous system naturally limits scratching and may help explain why this process breaks down in people with chronic itch disorders. The findings were presented at the 70th Biophysical Society Annual Meeting. Researchers from the laboratory of Roberta Gualdani at the University of Louvain in Brussels identified an unexpected role for a molecule known as TRPV4 in itch triggered by mechanical stimulation, such as scratching. “We…

An artwork looted by the Nazis from the renowned Goudstikker collection has resurfaced in the home of descendants of a notorious Dutch SS collaborator, according to an art detective.Portrait of a Young Girl, by the Dutch artist Toon Kelder, is believed to have hung for decades in the home of Hendrik Seyffardt’s family, Arthur Brand said, describing it as “the most bizarre case of my entire career”.The case has drawn parallels to a find that made global headlines in 2025, when an 18th-century Nazi-looted painting – also from the collection of the late Jewish art dealer Jacques Goudstikker – featured…
Cadillac’s EVs Are Stealing Tons Of Buyers From Other Brands
Cadillac is celebrating the sale of its 100,000th EV. It managed to sell nearly half of these cars in 2025 alone. Nearly 75% of the brand’s EV buyers are new to the brand, coming from rivals like Tesla. Cadillac is celebrating a big milestone: 100,000 EVs sold. And while that volume alone is pretty impressive, the more important victory is where exactly those buyers came from. For decades, Cadillac had a very specific cultural role in the automotive world. It built massive land yachts for those who appreciated soft leather bench seats that rolled down the road like they were…
Does Dante’s Inferno from the 14th century depict an asteroid impact?
Dante’s famous 14th century epic poem, “Inferno,” which is the first part of the Italian writer’s “Divine Comedy,” represents the first time a giant impact of a massive object falling from the heavens was envisaged, according to an expert in the specialized field of geomythology. In the poem, the massive object in question is the Devil himself, Lucifer, who fell onto the Earth after being expelled from heaven. Yet, according to Timothy Burberry of Marshall University in West Virginia , this fall and subsequent impact is described by Dante in very similar terms to an asteroid impact. Powerful AI finds 100+ hidden planets in NASA data including rare and extreme worlds
Astronomers at the University of Warwick have confirmed more than 100 exoplanets, including 31 newly identified worlds, using a new artificial intelligence system. The team applied this tool to data from NASA’s Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), a mission that scans the sky for slight dips in starlight that occur when a planet crosses in front of its host star. Their findings, published in MNRAS, are based on a detailed analysis of observations from more than 2.2 million stars gathered during TESS’s first four years. The researchers focused on planets that orbit very close to their stars, completing a full…
BJP ‘split’ on KC Venugopal as Kerala CM; Rajeev Chandrasekhar trolls Congress | India News
NEW DELHI: Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar took a sharp swipe at the Congress over its failure to decide on a chief minister face, joking that even the BJP appeared “split” over whether Congress leader KC Venugopal should remain in Delhi or move to Kerala. This comes as Congress, despite the UDF alliance securing a sweeping victory in the assembly elections, remained locked in a bitter internal tussle until days after the results were announced. The deadlock makes Kerala the only one of the four states that went into assembly elections this year without a chief minister.Replying to a user on…
For years, Uber talked about becoming a super app. Then Waymo started picking up passengers in San Francisco, and the conversation grew more urgent. The company has been trying to embed itself inside the AV industry — as a data provider, an investor, and a distribution platform — but the consumer-facing bet may be just as important. Two weeks ago, Uber held its annual GO-GET product event in New York and announced something its executives had been circling for a long time: users in the U.S. can now book hotels inside the Uber app, through a partnership with Expedia Group,…
