Chemicals leaching from plastic waste at the Mathuradaspura dumping yard on the outskirts of Jaipur are contaminating nearby agricultural land and water sources with BPA, posing a threat to local crops, according to a study.The year-long study on the contamination of Bisphenol A (BPA) — used in food-grade plastics and packaging materials — in and around the Mathuradaspura dumping yard was conducted by the Department of Environmental Science at Central University of Rajasthan, Ajmer.Preksha Palsania, who conducted the study under the supervision of Associate Professor Dr Garima Kaushik, said that soil and water samples were collected on three occasions from…

India’s current account surplus at $7.1 bn in Q4 FY26, aided by robust services exports and remittances
India recorded a current account surplus of $7.1 billion, or 0.7% of GDP, in the January-March quarter of FY26, supported by strong growth in services exports and remittance inflows, according to data released by the Reserve Bank of India on Monday.The surplus was lower than the $13.7 billion, or 1.4% of GDP, recorded in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.The country’s merchandise trade deficit widened to $83.4 billion during the quarter, compared with $59.3 billion a year earlier, reflecting higher import outgo.
