Shakeup at JPL? Control over iconic NASA center could change for 1st time in nearly 100 years
NASA plans to open up competition for control over the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), which has historically been operated by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). This move is part of an even larger reorganization by the agency (though NASA asserts that this doesn’t mean layoffs).”NASA announced today that they will compete the contract for operating JPL, with Caltech’s current agreement ending on Sept. 30, 2028,” reads a statement today (May 22) from JPL. Caltech has managed JPL since the lab’s inception in the 1930s, and has done so for NASA since the agency was established in 1958. According to…
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi vs David Warner
Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi played a scintillating knock against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in game 64 of IPL 2026 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Tuesday, May 19. The 15-year-old hammered 93 off just 38 as RR kept their playoff hopes intact with a seven-wicket victory. Chasing a target of 221, RR got over the line in 19.1 overs as Sooryavanshi struck seven fours and 10 sixes. A camouflaged Lucid Cosmos prototype has been spotted testing on public roads near the Lucid factory in Casa Grande, Arizona. The photo shows the midsize SUV right next to a Tesla Model Y, giving us our best real-world size comparison yet. The sighting comes as Lucid prepares for the Cosmos’s full public unveil this summer, with production slated for late 2026. The photo, shared on X by user @john61640, shows the Cosmos covered in black-and-white camouflage wrap — standard practice for pre-production prototypes undergoing road testing. What makes the image particularly telling is the Tesla Model Y parked right next…
Can Fasting Be Therapy? I Went to This Retreat in Germany to Find Out
Lake Constance in Germany glitters with bands of gray, silver, and ice blue. A blackbird chatters noisily and I catch the scent of magnolia. For once I’m not worrying about anything. I’m not distracting myself with my phone or a book or a bar of candy. I’m halfway through a 21-day fast at Buchinger Wilhelmi—the spiritual and scientific birthplace of modern fasting—and my preconceptions have all been blown out of the water. For years I’d thought Buchinger was “just a weight-loss place,” that it simply offered an extension of the intermittent fasting craze that has swept the wellness world. I…
Spine surgeon rates sofas for your back: Beanbags score 0, lumbar support gets 10 | Health News
That soft, sink-in sofa may feel like heaven after a long day, but your spine may strongly disagree. Dr K S Mane, a Karnataka-based spine surgeon, recently rated different types of sofas based on their impact on spinal health, with beanbags at the bottom and sofas with lumbar support as the clear winner.Intrigued, we decided to dig deeper and reached out to Dr Harshal Bamb, Senior Consultant – Spine Surgeon, Gleneagles Hospital, Parel, who broadly agrees with the logic, though he says how long and how often you sit matters just as much as the sofa itself.DISCLAIMER: This article is based…
Scientists discover a strange hidden state in “sandwich” molecules
Since their discovery in the 1950s, metallocenes have played a major role in organometallic chemistry. These compounds feature a metal atom positioned between two carbon rings, giving them a distinctive “sandwich” structure. Over the decades, scientists have explored their use in catalysts, advanced materials, energy technologies, sensors, and drug delivery systems. Even so, researchers have struggled to fully understand how these molecules form because many of the key intermediate stages are highly unstable and disappear almost instantly. Now, scientists at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) have captured and fully characterized a rare intermediate structure involved in metallocene…
RO systems should be maintained properly to be effective, says study
The authors of the study argue that using only RO devices as a stand-alone solution to urban drinking water safety may not be effective. | Photo Credit: File photo Installing reverse osmosis (RO) systems alone at home is not a guarantee for safe drinking water, a recent study has found. While the technology has been proven capable of removing microbes under ideal operating conditions, a field level study in Chennai showed that microbial contamination was detected in samples from RO units, highlighting the lack of regular maintenance and filter replacement as key issues. The results of the study ‘Evaluating Household Reverse…

Elon, stop trying to make Grok happen
There is a harsh truth about Elon Musk’s “truth-seeking” AI chatbot Grok: It’s not very good, and not many people are using it. That’s the takeaway of a new Reuters report, which found that Grok barely appears in federal records of how the US government used AI last year. It’s not the only sign xAI’s signature chatbot is in trouble, even as Musk puts it at the heart of what could be the biggest IPO in history.Reuters reviewed more than 400 examples of government AI use where specific vendors were named. Grok or xAI, it found, appeared in only three…
