DeepWay delivered 8,020 electric semi trucks last year

Baidu-backed EV truck maker DeepWay files for Hong Kong IPO

After a week of Tesla Semi grabbing headlines and stealing the show at ACT Expo, Baidu-backed DeepWay would like to remind you that they delivered 8,020 electric semi trucks in 2025 – and they’re almost ready to go public.

Founded in 2020 and backed by Chinese search engine and tech brand Baidu, DeepWay began selling electric HD trucks in 2023, delivering 509 units that year and 3,002 units in 2024 on its way to last year’s 8,000+ number. And in 2026, the company is showing no signs of slowing down as it prepares to launch an IPO.

DeepWay’s last $310 million round of investment was led by UAE-based venture firm Stone, with participation from Australian NGS Super and Chinese Xiamen Guosheng Fund last month, with CNEVPost reporting that existing shareholders ABC Impact and Nanjing Ronghe Capital also increased their stakes.

Baidu reportedly holds a 13.48% stake in the fledgling semi truck brand according to the company’s published prospectus.

    DeepWay StarWay specs, via DeepWay.

The DeepWay StarWay cabover-style model (shown, at top), offers 320 km (~200 miles) of loaded range from its modest 120 kWh battery pack, and is capable of charging from 0-80% in under 40 minutes according to the DeepWay website.

The longer-range DeepWay Star (below) has a more Tesla-ish, anteater-y look, and significantly longer range than the StarWay, offering more than 500 km (~310 miles) of range from its 600 kWh CATL battery packs – battery packs that can plug into charge ports two at a time for lickety-quick charging in about 30 minutes. If that’s too long of a wait, the Star can swap its tired batteries for fresh ones in special battery-sway stations in just six minutes.

It’s not all sunshine and lollipops for Star, though. Driving range drops from 500 to 400 km at the truck’s fully loaded 49 ton (98,000 lb.) GCWR – good news for the company’s Aussie customers’ dual-trailer rigs.

Also less sunny is the fact that, despite having delivered more than 12,000 electric semi trucks to fleet customers in China, Thailand, New Zealand, and Australia (and a few other countries here and there), the company still isn’t profitable. Not yet, anyway, but the big money players involved seem to think the time to realize returns will come somewhat sooner than later.

And why shouldn’t it? With 8,020 units sold last year, DeepWay is still only the ninth largest brand of electric and “new energy” trucks in semi.

The US? We are still way, way behind.
