Family Receives ‘Recovered’ Message 42 Days After His Death
Around 42 days after Devnarayan Ram’s death, his wife Seema Kujur received an automated message from the Ayushman Sarathi system. The message informed Devnarayan that he had recovered and was heading home.
The message said, “We are happy that you have recovered and are returning home,” and thanked him for using the free healthcare services under
The message also showed August 6, 2026, as his discharge date, even though he had died on June 30. The unexpected message left his family shocked and raised questions about how his treatment status remained active for weeks after his death.
Seema Kujur, who works as a staff nurse at Jashpur District Hospital, questioned the delay and sought an inquiry into the matter.
She said in a video message, “You can imagine what it means for a family to receive such a message for a person who has died. It causes immense pain.”
She also questioned how the system could remain unaware of her husband’s death for 42 days.
“I am a hospital employee, and even then, this happened to me. You can easily imagine what could happen to ordinary people, particularly poor and tribal families,” she said, demanding an inquiry.

Hospital Explains Why the Message Was Sent
Hospital officials said the message was automatically generated after the patient’s case was closed in the system. According to the hospital, the Ayushman claim was closed on August 6, weeks after Ram’s death, because the records had not been updated on time.
Ambikapur Medical College Hospital said no Ayushman package was deducted after the constable’s death. The hospital said only ICU and blood-transfusion-related packages, with the amount reported at around Rs 16,500–Rs 16,700 in the reports.
The hospital has sought corrective measures and said it would request that such automated messages not be sent to families after a patient’s death and closure of the case.
The incident has raised concerns about the importance of timely updating of
Conclusion
The incident involving Devnarayan Ram highlights how delays in updating hospital records can lead to serious confusion for families. While hospital officials have denied any treatment being billed after his death and attributed the message to a delayed record update, the family has questioned how such a message could be generated weeks after his death. Officials have acknowledged the administrative lapse, and corrective steps are being sought.
