Barcelona star Fermin Lopez has opened up on the Catalan giants potentially signing Rodri from Manchester City. The Spain captain reportedly wants to move to Camp Nou this summer, turning down an offer to join arch rivals Real Madrid.

The Blaugrana saw their opening offer worth £43 million rejected by Manchester City. However, they are expected to make an improved offer to sign the 30-year-old and a deal could reportedly be sanctioned for around £60 million.

Fermin Lopez, who missed Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with injury, has opened up on Rodri potentially moving to Camp Nou. The Barcelona attacking midfielder said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X:

“Everyone knows that Rodri is an extraordinary player. These are things that, if they are meant to happen, will happen… and I don’t want to get involved.”

Rodri is regarded as one of the best players in world football at the moment and won the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2024. He captained Spain to their second FIFA World Cup trophy last month beating Argentina 1-0 in the final.

During his time at Manchester City, he has made 298 appearances across competitions and contributed with 28 goals and 32 assists. He won 13 major trophies at the Etihad, including four Premier League titles and one Champions League.

The Barcelona target has earned 70 caps for Spain till date and has won the 2024 UEFA European Championship and the 2026 FIFA World Cup with La Roja. He became only the 11th player in history to win the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League and Ballon d’Or trilogy.

Barcelona considering a fresh offer for Manchester City superstar: Reports

Barcelona are reportedly ready to make a second offer for Rodri after seeing their opening bid rejected by Manchester City. Their first offer worth reported £43 million was turned down by the Cityzens earlier this week.

Rodri was heavily linked with a switch to Real Madrid in recent times but Barcelona have reportedly agreed personal terms with the Spain captain. However, they are yet to agree on a fee with Manchester City and could have to splash £60 million for his signature.

If the Blaugrana can make this deal happen, it would be a huge boost to Hansi Flick’s side both on and off the pitch. Rodri would make their team a lot stronger while he would be a huge influence to the dressing room as well.
