Nick Aldis announced a major title match for tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown. This week’s show is the first episode of the blue brand following SummerSlam 2026.
SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis made a major announcement ahead of tonight’s show. The former NWA Champion revealed that Trick Williams will be challenging Baron Corbin for the United States Championship tonight.

The Lone Wolf defeated Trick Williams at SummerSlam 2026 to capture the title. Corbin bashed Williams over the head with the title at the PLE and then followed it up with the End of Days for the pinfall victory.
“Some breaking news: tonight live on SmackDown, we have a huge SummerSlam rematch. No, not that one. Baron Corbin, the new United States Champion, will defend that championship against the former champion, Trick Williams, and that happens tonight live on SmackDown,” said Aldis.
Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42 to become United States Champion. Nick Aldis returned to the ring for the first time in three years at SummerSlam to battle Gunther in a singles match. The Ring General applied a Sleeper Hold on Aldis for the submission victory. Corbin departed WWE after his contract expired and spent some time on the independent wrestling scene before his return last month.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis admitted he was exhausted during his return to action against Gunther at WWE SummerSlam 2026.
In an interview with Sam Roberts, Aldis shared that he was tired and, despite his training, nothing prepared him for in-ring action. The former champion noted that he had never trained harder, but it still was not enough.
“God, I was so blown. Everyone talks about this and says there’s nothing that replicates working in the ring, and it really is true. I’ve been doing the most intense conditioning workouts for the last couple of weeks to get ready, and I’ve genuinely never trained that hard in my whole life. Still, just four minutes in, I was like, ‘Oh my God.’” [H/T ITR Wrestling]
