Islam’s going to submit him under three

A former UFC heavyweight contender doesn’t want Ian Machado Garry leaving Philadelphia with the UFC welterweight belt.

Looking ahead to Garry’s title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 330, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub said that the challenger is walking into the toughest stylistic matchup of his career. Garry may have the movement and footwork to frustrate opponents, but Schaub believes that only delays the inevitable once Makhachev starts closing the distance.

In a recent episode of The Fighter and The Kid, Schaub said:

“Islam’s going to submit him under three. Under three rounds… Hard to deal with Islam. Keep him off you. Very tough. Especially against the cage. Closes distance. Brendan Allen, who trained with Ian, was like, ‘I’ve grappled with him. Hopefully he’s gotten a lot better because I’m not Islam. And, yeah, I have my way with him.”

He also questioned whether Garry is the kind of champion the UFC should be building the division around:

“I’m out [if Garry becomes the champ]. I’m out. It’s too zesty. It’s too zesty for me. I like to dabble in zesty, have fun. I’m out. I’m out. I’m out! It’s going to be good. He saw what Ilia Topuria is doing in that zesty-a*s club, and he’s like, ‘I’ll match you.’ He said, ‘Hold my plant. Let me show you this.’ Yeah, because I’m signing with PETA. Women should run the world. And I’m with PETA. Can’t have you as champ. We can’t have you. I can’t have it. You cannot have that guy as your champ.”

Ian Machado Garry brushes off online criticism ahead of UFC 330 title fight

Ian Machado Garry insists the criticism surrounding him exists only online as he prepares to challenge Islam Makhachev for the UFC welterweight title at UFC 330.

The Irish contender said his real-life experiences have been completely different. He explained that he is met with support wherever he goes despite the backlash on social media. Garry also added that he has deliberately stayed away from reading comments during training camp.

In a recent interview with Betvictor Casino, he said:

“Social media is a false reality, because in the real world, I get nothing but love from everyone I meet on the streets. Online you can say what you want, you can do what you want. Now with AI, you can create what you want, and there are no parameters to where anyone can go. Anyone can do whatever they want, and it is a very different world that we live in right now. You have to understand that and just move on.”
