WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 2 – Best and Worst

SummerSlam 2026 is in the books, and it was overall a pretty solid effort from WWE. There wasn’t much to split Night One and Night Two, although the peaks on Sunday were definitely higher.

There was some rough stuff as well, though, as we will get to. But first, a shoutout to Chelsea Green, who realised her dream and became the Interim WWE Women’s Champion. Now, onto the biggest positives and negatives from the show.

Here is the best and worst of SummerSlam Night Two.

#3. Best: Long live The Shield

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins’ SummerSlam main event lasted 33 minutes. It may have been too long, but it definitely was packed with excitement and was the best match tonight. There were a lot of Shield references, including The Visionary’s attire, Powerbombs through the announce table, and that damn chair.

But the best one of all came when Reigns and Rollins paid tribute to Dean Ambrose, now known as Jon Moxley in AEW. They each hit one of his WWE moves, proving that he hasn’t been forgotten. In the end, The OTC came out on top and had a heartwarming moment with his former Shield brother.

There was no Bloodline interference at all, which was a huge positive. Roman Reigns operates best in these big match situations, without his family getting involved.

#2. Best/Worst: Gable does it, but WWE can’t help themselves

WWE loves shoehorning ads everywhere they could, but this was probably too much. They couldn’t even leave Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Championship celebration alone. The former Olympian had just beaten Penta after a gutsy performance to finally become a singles champion.

It truly was one of the highlights of the entire weekend, especially when his family came to the ring and celebrated with him. However, Gable was then given two cans of root beer by a dog mascot as his family awkwardly stood there, and an advertisement for Mug Root Beer flashed on our screens.

While not enough to ruin the moment, it was poor form for WWE. The positive is that they stuck the landing with Chad Gable, who had a great match with Penta and enjoyed the highlight of his career in his hometown of Minneapolis.

#1. Worst: Poor Dom

While it was inevitable Dominik Mysterio would lose to Danhausen at SummerSlam, it still is a travesty that he is being booked like this. The man who defeated John Cena in his final Premium Live Event match eight months ago lost a Human Monies on a Pole Match tonight.

This was your standard Danhausen comedy affair involving the Minihausens, and didn’t offer up anything special. Mysterio lost after he got cursed again. Hopefully, that’s the end of the feud, and Dirty Dom can now focus on rebuilding his credibility in time for TripleMania.

He is set to defend his AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano at the event, so Dominik Mysterio better shake this burial off quickly.

#1. Best: KO’s return lights SummerSlam on fire

It took Kevin Owens less than a minute into his comeback match after 17 months to put his surgically repaired neck to the test. That’s how much he loves this game. While Sami Zayn vs. Finn Balor would’ve been a great match regardless, KO’s return gave SummerSlam a massive jolt of energy.

The bait and switch from Nick Aldis involving Gunther was also well done, creating further euphoria from the fans when Owens returned. All four men played their part in the fast-paced opener on SummerSlam Sunday, with KO and Zayn’s timeless chemistry being the highlight.

Kevin Owens came out on top and secured an Undisputed WWE Championship match against CM Punk. That is a dream match; one we didn’t think would ever happen even a few months ago.
