WWE crowned an Interim Women’s Champion at SummerSlam after Rhea Ripley was sidelined with a torn meniscus in her knee. The Eradicator’s absence from in-ring competition led the company to introduce an interim title until she is medically cleared to return. The decision set up one of the biggest matches on the Night Two card, with five stars competing in a high-stakes Ladder Match for the championship.
The Interim WWE Women’s Championship Ladder Match featured Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, Chelsea Green, and Lash Legend. Each competitor earned their spot through qualifying matches in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam, making the contest one of the most competitive bouts of the weekend.
Thanks for the submission!
The action inside U.S. Bank Stadium was chaotic and dangerous from the opening bell. Momentum shifted several times as Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill renewed their bitter rivalry throughout the contest, repeatedly costing one another opportunities to win. On the opposite side, Tiffany Stratton and Lash Legend also found themselves locked in a physical exchange that eventually sent both women crashing to the floor. With the other four competitors neutralized, Green seized the moment, and she climbed the ladder and unhooked the championship belt to become the first-ever Interim WWE Women’s Champion, securing one of the biggest victories of her WWE career.
Chelsea Green’s victory immediately sparked reactions across social media, with many fans celebrating the long-awaited championship moment for the former Women’s United States Champion. The result also set up an eventual title unification match once Rhea Ripley is cleared to compete again.
Shortly after the premium live event, WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H acknowledged The Hot Mess’ accomplishment on social media. He shared a photo of the new champion holding the title on X and wrote:
“The smile of a champion. Congratulations to the NEW Interim @WWE Women’s Champion, @chelseaagreen! #SummerSlam,” wrote The Game.
Green will now serve as the active face of the division while Rhea Ripley continues to recover.
It will be interesting to see what Triple H and his creative team have planned for The Hot Mess and when Rhea Ripley returns to WWE TV to face Chelsea Green in a unification match.
