The Padres are currently in a tight corner as players like Michael King, Ty France, and Jason Adam might become free agents after the World Series. For the Padres skipper, dealing from their relatively strong bullpen might help the team balance their future roster requirements. Despite growing rumors around Mason Miller, the All-Star is likely to remain with the team. Instead, Adrian Morejon, the 27-year-old pending free agent, might become the Padres’ biggest trade chip, which could help them acquire an ace.
But if the NL West team decides to keep Morejon after the deadline, he will be qualified for a $23 million qualifying offer. But in case Morejon signs elsewhere, the Padres would get an extra draft pick as compensation.
Morejon is currently maintaining a 3.14 ERA, 8–2 record, and 64 strikeouts for the San Diego Padres during the 2026 MLB season. But the underlying expected 2.55 ERA, a 99.2 mph average fastball velocity, and the analytical models rank him as one of the best pitchers in terms of overall effectiveness.
