Brandon Nakashima, the World No. 33 from the USA, began his 2026 Mubadala DC Open campaign with a fine 6-3, 6-4 first-round win over Tomas Martin Etcheverry of Argentina. Nakashima, one of the home hopes still remaining in the men’s singles main draw in Washington, entered the tournament with a 19-14 win-loss record for the season and on the back of a rather disappointing second-round finish at the Wimbledon Championships, where he was ousted by veteran Jan-Lennard Struff after a five-set thriller.

Meanwhile, Jakub Mensik, the 20-year-old Czech prodigy, is the No. 7 seed in Washington this year. The two-time ATP Tour-level title winner survived a scare against American qualifier Trevor Svajda in the first round, scrambling to a 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-3 win to keep his campaign alive. Mensik, like Nakashima, couldn’t make it past the second round at Wimbledon. The Czech star entered Washington with a 24-12 win-loss record so far this year.

Nakashima and Mensik’s upcoming second-round clash in Washington is set to mark their maiden ATP Tour-level meeting. However, their two prior matches spanning qualifying and Challenger levels both went the Czech’s way.

Brandon Nakashima vs Jakub Mensik prediction

Mensik will defeat Nakashima in three tight sets in their second-round match at the Mubadala DC Open. The World No. 17 Czech, powered by his booming serve and aggressive baseline play, holds a psychological edge from previous head-to-head success.

While the American World No. 33 enjoys home-court crowd support and comes off an impressive straight-set opening-round victory, he historically struggles to generate break-point opportunities against Mensik’s high-efficiency first-serve delivery.

Expect extremely tight sets dominated by holds, with at least one tiebreak. Ultimately, Mensik’s superior clutchness in late-set pressure moments will prove the deciding factor, allowing him to edge out the American and secure his quarterfinal berth.

Pick: Mensik to win in three sets.

Brandon Nakashima vs Jakub Mensik betting tips

Tip 1: Taking Nakashima as a slight underdog offers excellent value, as Mensik struggled significantly with his consistency in the opening round.

Tip 2: If you want a safety net on the moneyline, backing Nakashima with a small game handicap covers you even if he loses a tight three-setter.
