Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, clarified his religious beliefs and confirmed that he is a Christian while his wife follows the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith.
During a press conference at the 2018 US Open, Williams surprised her fans with a shocking revelation. The 23-time singles Grand Slam champion revealed that she wouldn’t celebrate her daughter Alexis Olympia’s first birthday. The reason is simple: she is a Jehovah’s Witness.
Thanks for the submission!
“We’re Jehovah’s Witnesses, so we don’t do that,” Serena Williams told reporters at the U.S. Open press conference.
After Williams’ revelation, fans have wondered about her husband Alexis Ohanian’s religious beliefs for a long time. He finally put them to rest after he shared a biblical verse on X.
“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Hebrews 12:11,” Ohanian recently posted on X.
A fan didn’t shy away from expressing his wonder and responded to Ohanian’s post and wrote:
“Bruh, you’re a Christian? Good to know.”
The Reddit co-founder, with his usual calm and wit, replied:
“I’m Armenian ofc I’m Christian.”
Coming to the couple’s love life, Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian started dating in 2015, and four years later they tied the knot on November 16, 2017. The wedding ceremony was a star-studded Beauty and the Beast–themed ceremony at the Contemporary Arts Centre in New Orleans, shortly after the birth of their first daughter, Olympia.
Venus Williams heaps praise on sister Serena Williams for Wimbledon singles return
On the tennis front, Serena Williams recently ended the four-year hiatus and returned to competitive action for the first time since the US Open 2022. She arrived at the Queen’s Club and initially limited herself to the doubles event.
After rediscovering her rhythm, the 44-year-old accepted the singles wildcard entry for the main draw at Wimbledon. In front of a jam-packed crowd, she squared off against Australia’s Maya Joint, pushed the game to the decider but landed short and succumbed to a 3-6, 7-6(6), 3-6 defeat.
Venus Williams extolled the 44-year-old for the performance she pulled off during her sister’s return and admitted that she “looked great” even though the result didn’t go in her favour.
“She played stellar in that match. I think her level was so extraordinarily high. It was very unlucky. Sometimes you play players who are on fire, and they don’t seem to maintain that level afterwards. You’ll have to ask her what’s next, but she looks great,” Venus Williams said about her younger sister.
Unfortunately, during her singles encounter, she tweaked her knee late in the first set and missed the chance to revive her prolific partnership with sister Venus on the court. As of now, there is no timeframe for Serena Williams’ return to the court.
