    Brandon Aiyuk proclaims himself as “final piece” missing in Dan Quinn’s Commanders squad

    The last few weeks wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been advocating for the Washington Commanders to take a chance on him. That sentiment continued this weekend when Aiyuk, who is currently still a member of the San Francisco 49ers, texted The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

    Jhabvala shared those sentiments on X, as the wide receiver continues his campaign to join the Commanders this season.

    “AP and DQ put together a SQUAD! I’m the final piece that will swing all the odds in our favor (trophy emoji),” Aiyuk said via text.

    Aiyuk hasn’t played for the San Francisco 49ers since 2024 when he suffered a torn ACL and MCL midseason. In December, he was placed on the “left team” list after he stopped reporting to the training facility for practice.

    In the last few months, he has made countless pleas on social media for the Washington Commanders to take a chance on him.

    John Lynch addressed Brandon AIyuk situation at training camp press conference

    On Saturday, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch spoke to reporters for the first time at training camp. He was asked to give an update on wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, amid his push to join the Commanders.

    John Lynch was clear in his response, saying that he is more focused on the players that are currently on the roster and reiterated Aiyuk’s designation.

    “Brandon is on a left squad designation. As such, he’s not on our 90-man roster. And I, personally and we as an organization are going to focus on the players that are here. And so, I don’t have anything to say on that, anything to add to that. We wish him well. We wish his family well,” Lynch told reporters on Saturday.

    In order to play in the NFL again, Aiyuk would have to file for reinstatement since he was designated as a player who willingly left the team. In order to do that, he would have to communicate with the 49ers, a notion he has made clear he doesn’t want to do. If the reinstatement was finalized, he would then be able to work on finding his next destination.
