It’s about the same size as a Tesla Model 3, but half the cost. BYD revealed the first images of the new Seal 06 EV ahead of its upcoming launch.
BYD upgrades the 2027 Seal 06 EV
After launching the 2026 Seal 06 EV last June, BYD is already preparing to introduce the upgraded 2027 model.
While an official launch date has yet to be confirmed, Zhang Zhou, head of sales at BYD’s Ocean Sales Division, released the first images of the 2027 Seal 06 EV on Monday.
One of the most noticeable upgrades is the roof-mounted LiDAR. The current Seal is equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye ADAS and DiPilot 100 smart cockpit setup, but it’s among the few vehicles left in its lineup that still uses a camera system rather than a LiDAR.
It looks like that’s about to change. Whether it will be equipped as standard or offered as an optional add-on remains up in the air.
BYD has yet to say when the 2027 Seal 06 will go on sale, but regulatory filings revealed a few key details.
According to CarNewsChina, the updated Seal 06 measures 4,870 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, or 150 mm longer than the current model.
It will also reportedly offer a CLTC range of up to 630 km (391 miles), up from 545 km (339 miles) in the current Seal 06 EV.
The filings revealed the 2027 Seal 06 EV will deliver more power as well, with two single-motor options, delivering 120 kW or 240 kW, up from 110 kW and 160 kW in the current model.
BYD will reveal final details, including prices and battery specs, closer to launch. The current 2026 Seal 06 EV starts at just 109,800 yuan ($16,200) in China, or half the cost of a Tesla Model 3, which starts at 235,500 yuan ($34,800).
