“Cockroaches won, democracy won,” the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) posted on X in their first response to Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation.

As Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan posted the letter on X, saying he has sent his resignation to PM Modi, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke says, “We have done it. Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned.”

Abhijeet Dipke said, “Don’t make me a hero because Dharmendra Pradhan resigned today. Don’t make this mistake. The country has been ruined because of making one person a hero.”

Anita Dipke, mother of Abhijit Dipke says, “This is very good. For two-and-a half months, the students have been fighting. Abhijeet has achieved so much at such a young age. He was slapped and vilified. Now, there is victory.”

    At the protest site

The first whispers spread through the crowd that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had resigned, but with internet connectivity patchy at the protest site, confirmation was elusive. Students huddled around the few phones that had a signal, calling friends and relatives outside Delhi, refreshing social media feeds, and asking strangers if they had heard the same thing, our reporters says.

Then the confirmations began to come in.

A roar swept through the protest site. Students embraced, parents wiped away tears, and chants drowned out the uncertainty that had lingered for days. Yet even amid the celebrations, many insisted their movement was not over.
