The Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) on Sunday urged citizens to report unsafe food, unhygienic kitchen, and poor handling practices on their mobile application.

“Don’t just notice it, report it! Unsafe food practices affect everyone. Turn your awareness into action with the Food Safety Connect App,” the food regulator said in a post on X.

FSSAI has ramped up its food inspection, reporting and action efforts to curb marketing, selling and consumption of unsafe food.

The authority had issued nine notices to
Swiggy Instamart on Saturday over multiple consumer complaints alleging the supply of expired, spoiled, contaminated and otherwise unsafe food products, including rotten eggs, expired whey protein, spoiled food items and damaged packaged goods. The regulator also flagged alleged licensing irregularities related to NOICE Eggs, incorrect FSSAI licence details and lapses in seller compliance and consumer grievance redressal.

FSSAI has sought a detailed explanation on Swiggy Instamart’s food safety, quality assurance, inventory management, hygiene and corrective measures, warning of legal action under the FSS Act, 2006 if the platform fails to submit a compliance report within the stipulated timeline. Swiggy Instamart said it is reviewing the flagged listings and is working with the authorities to resolve the matter.
