Shane van Gisbergen (SVG) had a hilarious response after taking the led during the Cup Series race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

SVG built his NASCAR reputation on road course success but has been improving his results on ovals. The New Zealand driver earned his first top-5 finish at Nashville’s 1.333-mile oval in May and matched that result last Sunday at the historic short track.

He started eighth in the 37-car Cup Series field and quickly moved forward after crew chief Stephen Doran called for a two-tire pit stop during the first cycle of stops. He jump into fourth place and then passed Christopher Bell, Ty Gibbs, and Denny Hamlin to grab the lead on Lap 52.

“I’m leading. What the f**k do I do now?” he asked over the radio.

The clip of the Trackhouse Racing driver’s comments over the radio went viral.

“The most excitement all night,” a fan wrote.

“😂😂 That’s a classic ! Funny as hell,” another commented.

“This dude is impossible to hate 😅,” another shared.

SVG led four times for 49 laps, which was the second-most laps led in the race behind winner Joey Logano.

The 49 laps at North Wilkesboro pushed his Cup Series career total beyond 600 laps led, making him the 126th driver in series history to do so. His total now matches Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who reached 603 laps led across 492 Cup Series starts.

“Wasn’t good enough on the long run” – Shane van Gisbergen on his fifth place finish at North Wilkesboro

Shane van Gisbergen reflected on his strong North Wilkesboro weekend on X. The Trackhouse Racing driver admitted his No. 97 Chevrolet lost pace and the lead to Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin.

“Awesome night, P5 at North Wilkesboro! Pretty cool to get the lead but just wasn’t good enough on the long run. Had a lot of fun and everyone on the [Wendys] and [Trackhouse] team did a great job, was a good points race which is what we needed 😀,” SVG wrote.

Before the Cup race, SVG drove the No. 71 Chevrolet Silverado for Spire Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and finished third.

The 37-year-old started 19th and climbed from 17th at the end of Stage 1 to 14th after Stage 2. He made his final push during the closing laps and reached third place before the finish.
