The Tata Group‘s upcoming Rs 27,000-crore semiconductor facility in Assam will receive government incentives worth Rs 14,044 crore, with the Centre and the state jointly backing one of India’s largest electronics manufacturing investments, the Assam Assembly was informed on Thursday.

Replying to a query by Raijor Dal MLA Akhil Gogoi, Industries, Commerce and Public Enterprises Minister Bimal Borah said the Centre will provide Rs 10,255 crore as an incentive for the Tata Electronics project.

“The Assam government has additionally sanctioned Rs 3,789 crore for the project to ensure its long-term success,” he added.

Borah said the upcoming facility is expected to generate more than 27,000 jobs, including around 15,000 direct employment opportunities. \

Being developed by Tata Electronics with an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, the Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant is designed to manufacture up to 48 million semiconductor chips a day. The facility will use advanced packaging technologies, including flip chip and Integrated System in Package (ISIP).

The semiconductor plant is coming up at Jagiroad in Morigaon district, on the site of the erstwhile Hindustan Paper Corporation’s Nagaon Paper Mill, which was shut down. The project is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem while giving a major boost to industrial development in Assam.
