Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has backed Spain to defeat Argentina and win the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. He also revealed that Sergio Aguero might not like his prediction, but La Roja will rise above all odds and win their second FIFA World Cup trophy.

    In a post on X, @IkerCasillas wrote:

“I know you’re not going to like this pick, Sergio…, but today and always with Spain.”

Sergio Aguero responded to Casillas’s prediction, urging Argentina to win the game on the pitch rather than on social media. He wrote (via @aguerosergiokun on X):

“It’s talked about on the court, Iker. Let’s go Argentina!!.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final between La Roja and Argentina is expected to be tough as both teams have shown class and consistency. The Spaniards have been defensively solid, having conceded only one goal in seven games at the tournament.

They’ve also scored 13 goals and are yet to suffer a defeat despite facing formidable powerhouses like France, Portugal, and Belgium. The defending champions have also shown they have goals in them, having scored 19 goals in seven games leading up to the final.

However, Lionel Messi and Co will have to be at their best to break the defensive walls of the Spaniards, who have kept six clean sheets. The final is likewise expected to be a high-scoring encounter, considering the attacking strength of both teams.

Lionel Messi has urged La Albiceleste supporters to be proud of the team regardless of the outcome of their final with Spain. He also appreciated every member of the Argentine national team for their support in the tournament so far,

In a post ahead of the final, the former Barcelona forward said (via Fabrizio Romano on X):

“Thanks to each one of my teammates, to the coaching staff, and to all the great people who work every day to keep this National Team as a family. Whatever happens tomorrow, this group has already written a story that we will never forget and that no one will be able to erase. Vamos, Argentina.”

Messi has scored eight goals and registered four assists in seven games in the tournament. He has also been one of the most consistient attackers and will be eager to defeat Lamine Yamal and Co to lift his second FIFA World Cup trophy. The final is scheduled to be played at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey tonight, July 19.
