The apex court told the Centre and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) that if a new language is to be introduced, it should be done in Classes 5 or 6 rather than Class 9, when students are already in a crucial academic phase.
The observations came while hearing a matter related to the proposed changes in the CBSE curriculum. The court questioned the rationale behind introducing an additional language at the secondary level and flagged concerns over the academic burden on students.
The Supreme Court asked the Centre and CBSE to consider the timing of such curriculum changes and ensure that students are given adequate time to adapt to additional language requirements.
