AEW Dynamite opened to an exciting yet chaotic sight this week as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage managed to keep their title reign intact.
The opening match of the July 15 episode of Dynamite saw Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defend their AEW World Tag Team Championships against Death Riders members Daniel Garcia and Wheeler Yuta in a tag team collision. Yuta, who was heckled by the crowd chants, dusted it off and started the match by locking horns with the Rated-R superstar. However, they had a small back-and-forth exchange before both men tagged their partners, and Christian and Garcia were the legal men in the ring.
Right after, the match began to pick up pace. The Patriarch overpowered the former TNT Champion and then tagged back Cope. The Death Riders took advantage to double-team him as the referee was not looking, giving Garcia the upper hand for a while. This led to the former 11-time World Champion being overpowered for a while; however, he finally managed to tag in Christian and he once again gained control.
The match continued to be an enthralling bout. As the closing moments approached, Wheeler Yuta attempted to remove the top turnbuckle. As the referee was looking away, The Patriach took the opportunity to hit a low-blow on Garcia, taking him out of the equation. As Yuta turned around, he was shocked to see no one and Adam Copeland and Christian Cage took him down with a tossing spear to pick up the win and retain their AEW titles.
The Young Bucks were spotted looking on the victorious duo. However, they had little time to celebrate as Adam Copeland and Christian Cage were attacked by the Dogs (Clark Connors and David Finlay) and Claudio Castagnoli. They had the champions down under the Bang Bang Gang came to their aid. It led to absolute chaos until the Dogs and Castagnoli retreated and the scene ended with still some tensions between Jay White and Christian Cage being evident.
