MIOT International has inaugurated a public Emergency Museum, MIOT’s World of Life-Saving Moments, at its campus in Manapakkam, with the aim of improving public awareness of emergency preparedness and first response. The museum was inaugurated by B. Shamoondeswari, IPS, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Greater Chennai Police.
Designed as an interactive public awareness initiative, the museum traces the evolution of emergency and trauma care in Chennai, from the early 1980s to the development of MIOT’s emergency services. Through visual exhibits, visitors are introduced to common medical emergencies, including heart attack, stroke, sepsis, poisoning, choking, anaphylaxis and heat stroke, along with guidance on first aid measures and actions to avoid.
A CPR demonstration station allows visitors to learn and practise chest compressions using a mannequin. The museum also recognises the contributions of traffic police personnel, paramedics and citizens who have assisted during medical emergencies.
Alongside the museum, the hospital has launched a pocket-sized Emergency Handbook containing first-aid guidance on cardiac emergencies, burns, trauma, bleeding, neurological emergencies, paediatric first aid, and emergency contact numbers.
The museum will remain open to the public from July 15 to August 15. MIOT has invited schools and colleges to organise student visits to promote emergency awareness and basic life-saving skills among young people. The event also featured awards for traffic police personnel, paramedics and citizens who acted promptly to help save lives during emergencies.
