Team India stars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah are playing together in an ODI after 967 days. The three are part of the Men in Blue’s playing XI for the ongoing series opener against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14.

The trio’s previous ODI appearance together came almost three years back during the 2023 World Cup final. The Rohit Sharma-led side suffered a heartbreaking six-wicket defeat to Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, in the summit clash.

Kohli and Sharma have actively played ODI cricket for India since and were part of the 2025 Champions Trophy-winning squad as well. Bumrah, on the other hand, is playing his first ODI since the 2023 World Cup final. A lower-back injury and workload management resulted in his long hiatus from the 50-over format.

The three champion cricketers were reunited in the first ODI against England as India gear up for the road to the 2027 World Cup. The visitors will be keen to bounce back following a 0-4 T20I series defeat to England.

Jasprit Bumrah to lead India’s bowling attack as England opt to bat first

England captain Harry Brook won the toss and chose to bat first in the contest. Speaking at the toss, he mentioned that it looked a good surface to bat on and expected some assistance for the spinners in the second half.

Shubman Gill was not too disappointed with the result and remarked that India were anyway looking to bowl first. Jasprit Bumrah is back to lead the Indian bowling attack.

Apart from the ace speedster, the pace attack consists of Gurnoor Brar and Prasidh Krishna, while Axar Patel and Washington Sundar are the two spin-bowling all-rounders.

Here are the playing XIs for the ENG vs IND 2026 1st ODI:

ENG: Jacob Bethell, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook(c), Jos Buttler(w), Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, Josh Tongue, Adil Rashid

IND: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill(c), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Washington Sundar, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Gurnoor Brar, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna
