Geno Smith is under investigation for battery accusations in Davie, Florida. The saga began with a 911 call from a woman identifying herself as Smith’s high school sweetheart and ex-girlfriend. The case has led to concerns about the New York Jets quarterback’s availability for the upcoming season.
NFL insider Rich Cimini provided an update on the matter during his appearance on the “Jets Collective” podcast on Monday.

“Typically in a situation like this, even, let me stress this, hypothetically, if he were charged and this didn’t go through the, you know, this was adjudicated, it would take a long time for that process to take place,” Cimini said.

“He could fall under the personal conduct policy by the NFL, but I do not believe that would impact him for this season. That likely would be for next year. We know how the lawyers get continuances and so on and kick the can down the road. And so I would think it would likely be an impact the following season.”

Cimini shut down any narrative backed by videos circulating on the internet. He believes that the final verdict will likely come from the surveillance cameras at Smith‘s residence.
As it stands, Smith is the unquestioned starter heading into late-July practices. Behind him, the Jets have Cade Klubnik, Bailey Zappe, and Brady Cook in the QB room.

Last month, Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart faced heavy criticism after introducing President Donald Trump at a rally in Rockland County, and later issued a statement addressing the backlash.
Now, Jets quarterback Geno Smith is facing backlash after a woman posted videos on social media accusing him of domestic violence. OutKick founder Clay Travis took a dig at Dart while sharing his stance on Smith’s situation on X last week.
“This sounds bad. But it could always be much worse for a New York NFL quarterback– he could have introduced the president of the United States at a rally,” Travis wrote.
Following those accusations, the mother of Smith’s son, Kennedy, defended the Jets quarterback. She shared photos of Smith spending time with their son and pushed back against the narrative.
“Geno is and always has been more than capable of taking care of his son, let’s kill that narrative. Don’t get on the internet bringing my son into your web of dysfunction.”
Smith is projected to lead the Jets’ offense when New York faces the Tennessee Titans in Week 1 on Sept. 13.
