Shiv Sena MP Jyoti Waghmare moves NCW against Sanjay Raut over 'extremely low-level remarks'
In a complaint emailed to the NCW chairperson in New Delhi, Waghmare sought the immediate registration of a criminal case against Raut

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Jyoti Waghmare has approached the National Commission for Women (NCW) against Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut, accusing him of repeatedly using abusive language, obscene profanity and publicly insulting women representatives. In a complaint emailed to the NCW chairperson in New Delhi, Waghmare sought the immediate registration of a criminal case against Raut, alleging that his statements and conduct over the past four years warranted legal action.Sharing the complaint on X, Waghmare said, “Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Jyoti Waghmare has today filed an official complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) against the continuous abusive language, obscene profanity, and public insult of women representatives by MP from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg Sanjay Raut.”

Waghmare alleges remarks have hurt political culture

Seeking strict action, Waghmare urged the women’s panel to take cognisance of the matter and ensure criminal proceedings against Raut.According to news agency ANI, her complaint stated: “Taking serious note of Sanjay Raut’s controversial statements and conduct over the past four years, MP Jyoti Waghmare has made a strong demand in her email complaint sent to the NCW’s head office in New Delhi for immediate registration of a criminal case against him.”She also expressed concern over the impact of Raut’s alleged remarks on Maharashtra’s political discourse, saying, “Maharashtra has a great tradition of cultured and ideological politics, but due to MP Sanjay Raut’s extremely low-level remarks, this tradition is suffering a major blow.”The complaint comes days after six Shiv Sena (UBT) Lok Sabha MPs formally joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena in what the ruling faction described as “Operation Tiger”.

Row follows Raut’s remarks amid Shiv Sena split

The complaint follows a series of controversial statements made by Raut during the recent political turmoil within Shiv Sena (UBT).Raut came under criticism after using abusive language while addressing rebel MPs during a press conference last week. Defending his remarks, he said they reflected common Marathi usage and insisted he knew “when and which language should be used.”Responding to criticism, Raut had said, “No abusive language. This is how it is used in Marathi. This is how it is used in Maharashtra. This is our regular language. The language that should be used, should be used. The language that is understood should be used. And when and which language should be used, I know. I am the editor of the Saamna. I know the language”.He also argued that those who betray a party should face consequences, saying, “If someone is dishonest, what will you do with him? You will punish him. If someone is corrupt, he takes 15 crore rupees and leaves the party, what will you do with him? Will you punish him? Tell me.”More recently, after six Shiv Sena (UBT) MPs joined the Shinde faction, Raut again courted controversy by referring to them as “traitors” and saying deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde had “given birth to six gaddars (traitors)” and has to undergo a “Cesarean surgery”.
