The 2026 King of the Ring tournament has come down to two of WWE’s biggest stars: Jey Uso and Oba Femi. While The Ruler has dominated virtually everyone in his path over the past year, Main Event Jey continues to prove why he remains one of the most beloved superstars in the company.

The stakes couldn’t be higher. The winner of King of the Ring will earn a world championship opportunity at SummerSlam. This potentially changes the landscape of WWE heading into the second half of the year.

Adding another layer to the story is Roman Reigns. The World Heavyweight Champion has made it clear that he wants Jey Uso to win the tournament and challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Reigns’ vision is simple: The Bloodline should hold both world titles and solidify its dominance over the company.

However, there is a compelling argument for Oba Femi to emerge victorious instead. The former NXT Champion has looked unstoppable since his main roster debut. He appears destined for the main-event scene.

That said, in this article, we look at two reasons why Jey Uso should win the 2026 King of the Ring and two reasons why he shouldn’t.

#4. Should win: Jey Uso winning furthers Roman Reigns’ plan for The Bloodline

Roman Reigns has made his intentions crystal clear. The World Heavyweight Champion wants Jey Uso to win King of the Ring and challenge Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. WWE has repeatedly referenced this mission throughout Jey’s tournament run. Thus, making it one of the most important stories heading into Night of Champions.

A victory for The YEET Master would immediately give the company one of the biggest matches possible for SummerSlam. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso have shared plenty of history over the past few years. However, they have never met under circumstances this significant. With the Undisputed WWE Championship potentially on the line, the match would instantly become one of the most anticipated bouts of the year.

There is also the matter of Roman Reigns himself. While the Tribal Chief wants Jey Uso to succeed, the dynamics could quickly change if Jey gets too close to achieving what Roman desires most. If Uso defeats Cody Rhodes, he would become one of the most powerful figures in WWE and potentially rival Roman’s influence within The Bloodline.

Those possibilities make The YEET Master’s victory far more intriguing from a storytelling perspective. WWE could create months of compelling television simply by exploring the fallout of Jey pursuing Cody Rhodes and winning the tournament.

#3. Shouldn’t win: Oba Femi deserves a world title opportunity at SummerSlam

As strong as Jey Uso’s case may be, there is an equally convincing argument that Oba Femi should be the one advancing to the world title picture.

The former NXT Champion has been one of WWE‘s most protected stars so far in 2026. From his dominant performances on weekly television to his impressive victories on premium live events. The company has consistently portrayed him as a future world champion.

Femi has continued to build momentum and establish himself as one of the most dangerous competitors on the roster. Every match seems designed to reinforce the idea that he is a generational talent capable of carrying WWE into the future. That is why a SummerSlam world title match feels like the logical next step.

A loss in the final would not derail The Ruler’s momentum, but it would postpone what many fans view as an inevitable main-event breakthrough. The King of the Ring tournament has traditionally been used to create new stars, and few competitors fit that description better than Oba Femi.

While Jey Uso has already reached the top of WWE, Oba Femi is still climbing. Giving him the crown could accelerate that ascent and officially establish him as a permanent fixture in the world title scene.

#2. Should win: Jey Uso winning will boost his momentum

Jey Uso continues to be one of the most popular stars in WWE today. His performance during the King of the Ring tournament has likely strengthened his reputation as one of the company’s top stars.

Hence, winning the tournament would allow WWE to capitalize on that popularity instead of slowing it down. It would also allow The YEET Master to regain momentum following the significant challenges he has encountered in the world title scene.

WWE has spent years building Jey Uso into a legitimate singles attraction. Thus, earning a championship opportunity against Cody Rhodes would represent another major milestone in that evolution.

The company has already proven that Jey can thrive outside of the tag team division. Thus, winning King of the Ring would further cement his place among WWE’s elite.

#1. Shouldn’t win: The tag team division needs The Usos

For more than a decade, Jey and Jimmy Uso have been the standard-bearers of tag team wrestling in WWE. They have won multiple tag team championships, headlined premium live events, and delivered classic matches. Even in 2026, they remain one of the most recognizable tag teams in the industry.

A King of the Ring victory could push The YEET Master even further into the singles spotlight. If he wins the tournament, Jey would immediately shift his focus toward Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam. Such a major opportunity would likely keep him occupied in the world title picture for months, leaving little room for his partnership with Jimmy Uso.

That could be a problem for WWE’s tag team division. The Usos continue to be one of the company’s biggest attractions. Their presence instantly adds credibility to any championship scene.

Jey winning King of the Ring would make another prolonged singles run almost inevitable. While that may benefit his individual career, it could come at the expense of one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history.

For that reason, some fans may believe that a loss at Night of Champions could ultimately be better for WWE’s tag team division. Thus, allowing The Usos to focus on dominating the division again.
